Wolfrik sighed and looked out at the destruction before him.
The ground was stained red, the once lush grass was flattened and bits of fur
fluttered in a cool breeze. The Day Guards had suffered a grievous loss that
day. Wolfrik wasn't sure if they would ever recover fully. He had lost two of
his greatest warriors. They had been stuck down like trees in a lightning
storm. Now he had just two left. Frostbite and... "Come to think of it, where
is Frostbite?" wandered Wolfrik.
'FROSTBITE! GET YOUR BUTT DOWN HERE,
NOW!' bellowed Wolfrik. Frostbite came scooting round a large stone, tongue
lolling out of his jaws. He skidded to a halt jus

Opal awoke. She sighed and took a deep breath in. She smelt
trees, that horrible sent of burnt trees and... Flowers?
She opened her eyes with a start. She looked about her in bewilderment. Where
before there had been charred earth, there was grass, flowers, life! Opal sat
up. This wasn't normal. How could the forest have healed so fast? Next to her
she heard a snuffling noise. It was Rune. Rune yawned and opened his green
eyes. He stopped mid yawn. He closed his jaws and looked about. He looked up at
Opal with a "Did you do this?" look on his face. Opal shook her head and the
two wolves looked around them at the newly regenerated fore

Rune's eyes widened in disbelief.
'I have to kill a pup?' he whined, flicking his ears. Opal
nodded. Rune swallowed. He hadn't believed it would be THIS hard to join the
killers.
'Tonight is the full moon. You need to kill a pup then. If
you are a true killer you will get a 'Blood Lust', which is basically where you
go into a killing frenzy,' growled Zen, narrowing his grey eyes.
'Ok. If I have to,' whined Rune, turning his head and
looking at the floor.
'Ok it's agreed. Tonight we go to Day Guard territory, so
that Rune can join our ranks,' barked Fawlks, his tail swishing.
'Hold on! Day Guards! You guys didn't say anything about

Opal looked down at the singed body of the wolf she had just
saved. He was so badly burnt, in places his skin was showing. She sighed and
sat down next to the wolf. No wolf deserved this. Opal knew that he would never
fully recover. She began to wander if she had done the right thing, saving him.
Rafe would be angry about being cheated out of
another victim, and Opal was in the firing line.
'Hey Opal, how's he doing?' barked Darkness bounding over.
'He's ok,' mumbled Opal, 'but some of those scars with never
heal.' Opal pointed with one black paw to the huge scar on his hip. Darkness
sighed sadly.
'How long before he wakes?' woofed
Night was falling over the Loue Valley.
A few snowflakes fluttered down out of the darkening sky, settling on to the
leaf covered ground. A chill wind blew through the dark trees, sending a few
leaves swirling up in spirals. Mice scuttled for shelter as the snow beat down heavier,
knocking the remaining few leaves off the trees. The snow beat down harder than
ever, whipping up into a blizzard.
A single shape moved in the sea of white. A wolf. The wolf walked slowly through the snow, its
yellow eyes glowing like little fires lost in a flurry of white petals. It
stopped and raised its muzzle towards the sky. It narrowed its eyes a

Opal's heart thudded in her chest, as Frostbite moved
closer. Next to her, she could feel Darkness shaking with fear. Frostbite
sniffed the air. An evil grin spread across his white muzzle. He crouched back
on his haunches, ready to spring. Darkness whined quietly and they watched
Frostbite, powerless stop their impending doom.
Suddenly a cry of anger exploded
into the air. Frostbite turned his white head towards the source of the sound.
He drew back his lips to reveal his fearsome teeth. Frostbite seemed fixed on a
wolf stood not so far away. The unknown wolf growled a fearsome growl and
folded its red ears back. The two wolves snar

'.... And then I said; so that's what you do when I am not
around!' chuckled Fawlks. Darkness fell about laughing.
'Ahahah!
That's so funny! Haha!' she laughed, wiping a tear of laughter from her eye. The
two wolves touched noses and smiled.
Zen narrowed his eyes. It wasn't fair! He had been working
up to asking Darkness to be his mate, when this wolf just waltzes in and
snatches her from under his nose! Zen had always been pushed aside as a pup.
His mother had always preferred his younger, cleverer, better looking brother.
Before he had come along his mother had cared for him, looked after him and
loved him. But then he was forgott
